It’s a Sweater! Actually, It’s a Blog!

It’s a Sweater! Actually, It’s a Blog!

Today is my 31st birthday. That’s right. My birthday is on a Tuesday, which is certainly better than last year’s 30th-birthday-on-a-Monday scenario. I like Tuesday. It is a day for new music, movies, press releases, etc… Generally, Tuesday is an exciting day. And today is extra special because it is my birthday and because today is the day that we launched TheRangeBlog.com, a spectacular online marketing blog from me and my colleagues at Range Online Media.

You may not know this, but Range has quietly had a blog for the past 18 months. You probably never saw it, read it or heard about it, but it was there. Another thing you may not know is that we have a solid team of writers and contributors, and the content has really been picking up over the past 8 months. With our expertise in online marketing, we have a the foundation for a great search marketing blog. However, when I checked our Google Analytics account, I noticed that our entire blog was only generating about 10-15 pageviews per day – and most of them were coming from our IP address!

Range had fallen victim to something that I see all to often on the internet. It’s actually kind of embarrassing, but our blog had become what I call a black hole for content. [Note: Before I go any further, please understand that I am a sucker for Physics and Astronomy, so be prepared for nerdy posts from me.] To be clear, a ‘black hole’ is a one-way surface. Things can go into a black hole, but nothing can come out. This perfectly describes our old blog. We had a lot witty, clever, search-related content going into this blog, but we were receiving no exposure. No one was finding our blog. No one was reading our blog. Our blog was simply a place for good content to go, never to be seen again.

Through a series of very fortunate events, I was able to create a Blog team at Range, and I got to design a new blog. In the past 6 weeks, my team and I have created and launched a blog that fits our personality and expertise. In the coming months, we will be updating the blog more often. In fact, TheRangeBlog.com will become a place for industry news, commentary and opinion, as well as a place for news related to Range Online Media.

I’d like to thank the entire Blog team here at Range Online Media. This project has been so much fun, and I have learned so much! So….Without further ado, please feel free to “surf” through the blog (How about that late-1990’s internet vernacular?!). And stay tuned for more!

BTW, creating a blog is an undertaking that requires knowledge and skills from several fields. Over the next few weeks I will be posting about our experience creating this blog. Keep an eye out for those posts.  You just might learn something. :)
